Winter Fishing Trips Near Portland

Winter is a great time to ask about catch-and-release sturgeon fishing near Portland. Join me aboard my 27-foot covered and heated Alumaweld boat for a day targeting sturgeon on the Columbia or Willamette River. The cover and heater make a cold-weather trip more comfortable while we look for a good bite.

Salmon Fishing on the Willamette and Columbia Rivers

Portland gives us access to both the Willamette and Columbia rivers. I plan salmon trips around the time of year, river conditions, fish movement, and open seasons. Spring Chinook trips are a favorite for anglers who want to spend a day pursuing salmon close to Portland.

Catch-and-Release Sturgeon Fishing Near Portland

For a powerful fish and a memorable fight, ask about catch-and-release sturgeon fishing. I guide sturgeon trips on the Columbia and Willamette rivers, choosing our fishing area based on conditions and the rules in effect.

Sturgeon come in a wide range of sizes, and the chance to hook a large fish is part of the excitement. We handle the fish carefully and follow current rules for releasing and photographing them. Large fish are not guaranteed, but a sturgeon trip can make a memorable day on the river.

Columbia River Gorge Walleye Trips

I also offer walleye trips farther east in the Columbia River Gorge. These trips give Portland-area anglers another option when they want to explore a different part of the Columbia. The fishing location and meeting point depend on the trip and conditions.

Can We Fish for Salmon and Sturgeon on the Same Day?

When open seasons, locations, and conditions line up, a combination trip may be possible. We can discuss targeting salmon for part of the day and catch-and-release sturgeon for the rest. Ask when booking so I can recommend a practical plan for your date.

What to Expect on Your Guided Fishing Trip

Beginners and experienced anglers are welcome. I provide the fishing gear, bait, tackle, required boat safety equipment, and instruction. My 27-foot Alumaweld Intruder is covered and heated for comfort on cooler days. I’ll confirm the boat and trip details when we arrange your outing.

Bring the fishing license, tags, and endorsements required for your trip, along with weather-appropriate clothing, food, and drinks. I’ll confirm the departure location and time before we meet. Visit my meeting locations page for more information.

Fishing seasons and retention rules vary by river section and date. Check ODFW’s current fishing regulation updates before your trip.

Fall and Winter Crabbing Trips From Astoria and Hammond

If you are visiting Portland and want a separate trip to the coast, I am also booking October and November 2026 Dungeness crabbing trips starting at $160 per person. Most Astoria-area crabbing trips depart from Hammond Marina aboard my covered and heated boat.
