With June 2024 here and being in Portland, Oregon, it is time to start thinking about Sturgeon fishing on the Columbia River.

June is also a great time to go Salmon fishing on the lower Willamette River. You could even do a half day of salmon fishing on the Willamette, then do the second half of the day of sturgeon fishing on the Columbia River.

June is a great time to go fishing for walleye on the Columbia River, which runs through Oregon and Washington. The Columbia River is one of the most popular fishing destinations in the Pacific Northwest. The fishing is excellent in June because the walleye are migrating upstream to spawn. The best place to fish for walleye on the Columbia River is in the Rufus, Oregon, area. Rufus is located about an hour east of Portland, Oregon. Read more about Rufus fishing here.

Around the end of May, shad will start showing up in the Willamette River. That means one thing for sure: big sturgeon in the Columbia River! Shad are an important forage fish for sturgeon, and when the shad show up in the Willamette, the sturgeon will be close behind. This is a great time to go sturgeon fishing in the Columbia River.

When we say “big sturgeon,” we mean it. Your average sturgeon is 7 to 10 feet long. Fishing for monster sturgeon is catch and release only, but it’s the battle of a lifetime. Sturgeon are the largest freshwater fish in North America.

If you’re looking to go fishing in Portland, Oregon, you’ll want to take advantage of the great weather during the months of May and June. You’ll have a wide range of options to choose from, including fishing for salmon, sturgeon, walleye, or shad. You could even split your day between fishing for salmon on the Willamette River in the morning and sturgeon fishing on the Columbia River in the afternoon.
