27-Foot Alumaweld Intruder Guide Boat

I guide from a 27-foot Alumaweld Intruder, powered by a Mercury 225 horsepower outboard and a Mercury 9.9 hp trolling motor. This setup gives us the ability to fish comfortably on big water while maintaining excellent control for trolling, anchoring, and precision boat positioning.

The Columbia River can become rough quickly, especially around Astoria, Buoy 10, the Columbia River Gorge, and the lower Columbia estuary. Having a larger guide boat helps provide a smoother ride, more fishing room, better stability, and an overall more comfortable experience for clients.

Many clients comment on how much room the boat has compared to smaller fishing boats. Whether you are fishing with friends, family, or bringing kids along, the extra space makes a huge difference.

Built for Columbia River Salmon Fishing

One of the main fisheries I guide is Columbia River salmon fishing. My boat is designed specifically for trolling large rivers and estuary systems where salmon fishing changes daily depending on tides, current, water conditions, and fish movement.

During spring chinook season, we fish around Portland and the Columbia River system. During summer and fall, we may fish near Astoria, Hammond, Warrenton, Buoy 10, and other productive salmon areas.

If you want to learn more about fall salmon fishing near Astoria, check out my Buoy 10 salmon fishing guide.

Sturgeon Fishing Guide Boat Setup

Sturgeon fishing requires a strong, stable, and dependable boat. Giant Columbia River sturgeon are powerful fish, and having enough space to move around safely is important.

My boat is fully equipped for Columbia River sturgeon fishing trips, including oversized landing equipment, heavy-duty tackle, and plenty of room for fighting fish and taking photos.

Sturgeon fishing is one of the most exciting fisheries in Oregon, and many of my clients come specifically to catch and release giant oversized sturgeon.

Walleye Fishing Boat Setup

My boat is also designed for productive Columbia River walleye fishing trips. Walleye fishing often involves covering water, trolling structure, and using electronics to locate fish.

The large fishing platform, electronics, and trolling setup help us fish efficiently while giving clients room to comfortably fish and move around the boat.

The Columbia River has become one of the top walleye fisheries in the Pacific Northwest, and many anglers travel from around the country to fish these waters.

Crabbing & Oregon Coast Fishing Trips

In addition to river fishing, my boat is also used for Oregon Coast crabbing trips and selected ocean fishing opportunities when conditions allow.

Fishing and crabbing near Astoria and the Oregon Coast can be an incredible experience, especially during fall and winter seasons when fresh Dungeness crab are available.

Guide Boat Comfort & Protection From Weather

Fishing in Oregon means weather conditions can change quickly. My guide boat is equipped with a removable top that helps provide protection from rain, wind, cold mornings, and rough weather conditions.

On warmer days, the setup can be opened up for more airflow and sunshine. The boat also has sliding seats that can be adjusted depending on the weather and how we are fishing that day.

I want clients to stay comfortable so they can focus on enjoying the trip and catching fish.

Marine Electronics, Radar & Fish Finders

My boat is equipped with high-quality marine electronics and navigation systems, including Lowrance GPS units, radar, sonar, fish finders, and advanced trolling motor controls.

I also use a Garmin Reactor 40 autopilot system to help maintain precise boat control during trolling and fishing situations where positioning matters.

Modern marine electronics are a huge advantage for navigation, fish location, depth tracking, structure identification, and overall safety on the water.

Fishing Safety Equipment

Safety is always a top priority on my guided fishing trips. My guide boat carries important safety equipment including inflatable life jackets, a life ring, first aid supplies, EPIRB emergency equipment, radios, and required river and ocean safety gear.

After decades of guiding on the Columbia River and Oregon Coast, I understand how important preparation and safety are for a successful fishing trip.

Custom Built With Steven’s Marine

This Alumaweld Intruder was custom built for me with help from Steven’s Marine in Milwaukie, Oregon.

Over the years, I have owned multiple guide boats, and this setup is one of my favorites because it gives clients comfort, room, stability, and the ability to fish multiple fisheries throughout Oregon and Washington.

Where I Fish in Oregon & Washington

Depending on the season, you may find me guiding trips on the Columbia River, Willamette River, Astoria area, Hammond, Warrenton, Buoy 10, Portland area fisheries, the Columbia River Gorge, and portions of the Oregon Coast and Pacific Ocean.

I guide anglers from all over the United States who are looking for professional Oregon fishing guide trips for salmon, sturgeon, walleye, and crabbing.

Why the Right Fishing Guide Boat Matters

The boat is one of the biggest parts of your fishing trip experience. A larger, well-equipped guide boat gives clients more comfort, more safety, more fishing room, and a better overall experience on the water.

Whether you are bringing your family, booking a corporate fishing trip, fishing with friends, or chasing a personal-best fish, my boat is designed to help make the trip enjoyable and productive.
