Today I was sturgeon fishing in the Columbia River. I was down by roster rock.
What a day we had. the weather was nice, a little wind not too bad.
I had 2 people on the boat. we were in about 65 feet of water.
I had last year smelt for bate.
we had 17 small sturgeon and we caught 6 we could of keep.
of course, we only went home with 2 sturgeons n of course that was the limit.
there are starting to be some shad in the river, so that means great fishing ahead!

And with shad moving in the river, that means the giant sturgeon fishing will start heating up.

This post was updated on December 3rd. 2023.  Sturgeon is mainly a catch and release fishery. We do get a small season in the Bonneville Pool in January 2024 to keep sturgeon. Check current regulations to make sure. you’re allowed to harvest the sturgeon.

check with Oregon dept fish and wildlife for Up-to-date regulations for sturgeon and salmon on the Columbia River.

Contact me Marvin’s guide service and I’m. happy to hook you up in a covered and heated boat and put some fresh sturgeon in your freezer.

Depending on the time of year, we will run our catch and release urgent trips, either in Portland, Oregon, right around downtown Portland, or up in the beautiful breathtaking Columbia River Gorge.

Maybe you’re looking for a thrill of your lifetime. Read here about giant monster sturgeon in the Columbia River Gorge.

Marvin’s guide service generally will start fishing for giant sturgeon around June.  I fish for giants around June and July in early part of August on the beautiful Columbia River near the Dalles Oregon.
