Columbia River salmon fishing will open up on Saturday, May 25, 2013, and should stay open through June.
This is a great time to do salmon, sturgeon, and shad fishing all on the same day. We fish for shad and salmon in the same location, so this makes it very easy to target both at the same time. Generally, we will just have one fishing rod out for shad, and that will offer plenty of action.
In the second half of the day, we will take our shad and use them for sturgeon bait! We can catch both monster and keeper size sturgeon, Reminder: You can only keep sturgeon on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Sturgeon fishing will close from Wauna Powerlines, just upriver from Astoria to Bonneville Dam, on June 15! But you may continue to catch and release the monster sturgeon in the off-season!
This post updated May 10, 2024 All Sturgeon fishing is catch-and-release. Do not keep a sturgeon.
