Where do your fishing charters depart from?

Trips depart from different rivers, bays, and launch ramps throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. Many trips take place on the Columbia River near Portland, Astoria, Hood River, Buoy 10, St. Helens, Tillamook Bay, and other productive fishing areas depending on the season.

What areas do you fish in Oregon?

Depending on the season and fishery, I guide trips on the Columbia River, Willamette River, Columbia River Gorge, Astoria, Buoy 10, Tillamook Bay, Portland area waters, Hood River, The Dalles, Rufus, Boardman, and other productive Oregon fishing destinations.


How long are your Oregon guided fishing trips?

Most guided fishing trips are full-day trips, usually around 7 to 8 hours. Trip length can vary depending on the species, fishing conditions, tides, weather, and regulations.


What is included in the price of a fishing charter?

Your trip includes the boat, fuel, professional guide service, rods, reels, tackle, bait, and all required safety equipment.


What is not included in the charter price?

Fishing licenses, food, drinks, gratuity, and fish cleaning or packaging services are not included unless otherwise stated.


Do I need a fishing license?

Yes. All anglers age 12 and older must have a valid Oregon fishing license and any required tags or endorsements.

You can buy an Oregon fishing license through the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.


When is the best time of year to catch salmon in Oregon?

Salmon fishing opportunities vary by river and run timing. Oregon offers spring, summer, and fall salmon fishing depending on water conditions, river location, and current regulations.

When is sturgeon fishing season?

What should I bring on my fishing trip?

Bring weather-appropriate clothing, rain gear, sunscreen, sunglasses, food, drinks, and your fishing license. Dressing in layers is always a good idea in Oregon.


What should I wear on a fishing charter?

Wear comfortable layers and non-slip shoes or boots. Rain gear is recommended, even when the forecast looks decent.


Are your fishing trips beginner-friendly?

Yes. Beginners are welcome. Marvin provides instruction, gear, and help throughout the trip so both new and experienced anglers can enjoy the day.


Can kids come on the fishing trip?

Yes. Family-friendly fishing trips are available. Kids are welcome when the trip, weather, and fishery are a good fit.


Can we bring food and drinks on the boat?

Yes. Guests are welcome to bring their own food, snacks, and drinks for the day.


Do you clean and fillet the fish we catch?

Fish cleaning may be available depending on the trip, location, and fishery. Ask when booking if fish cleaning is important for your group.


What happens if the weather is bad?

If weather or river conditions are unsafe, the trip may be rescheduled for safety reasons. Marvin’s Guide Service closely watches river conditions, ocean conditions, wind, tides, and weather forecasts to help provide a safe and enjoyable fishing trip.


How far in advance should I book a trip?

Booking early is recommended, especially during peak salmon, sturgeon, walleye, and Buoy 10 fishing seasons. Prime dates can fill quickly.


Do you offer fishing gift certificates?

Yes. Fishing gift certificates are available and make a great gift for birthdays, holidays, Father’s Day, retirement gifts, and special occasions.


Can we target more than one species on a trip?

Sometimes. Multi-species trips may be possible depending on the season, location, regulations, and fishing conditions.


What is your cancellation policy?

If weather or river conditions are unsafe, trips may be rescheduled. Cancellation policies can vary depending on trip timing and availability. Please contact Marvin’s Guide Service directly for current cancellation details before booking.


How many people can fish on one boat?

Most trips are best for 2 to 6 anglers, depending on the fishery, boat setup, and type of trip.


Do you provide fishing rods and tackle?

Yes. All rods, reels, bait, tackle, and fishing gear are provided.


What size fish can we expect to catch?

Fish size depends on the species and season. Salmon often range from 10 to 30+ pounds, sturgeon can grow much larger, and Columbia River walleye range from great eating-size fish to trophy-class fish.


How do we pay for a fishing charter?

Major credit cards and online payments are accepted. Payment details are provided when booking your trip.


Can you pick us up from our hotel?

Transportation is not provided, but clear launch directions are supplied before your trip.
