What to Fish for on the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon!
In Portland, Oregon, we have Salmon, steelhead, Sturgeon, Walleye and bass. These are some of the most targeted fish in the Portland area and on the Columbia River.
And, of course, plenty of panfish, like blugill perch and crappie.
In my next few blogs, we will talk a little bit about each one of these fish that are on the Columbia River and Willamette River.
Columbia River Sturgeon.
But since I’m gearing up for Sturgeon, let’s start with Columbia River sturgeon fishing.
May and June are my favorite times of year to fish. There is lots of action from Sturgeon, being 20 inches up to 12 foot long. Yep, Monster Sturgeon live on the Columbia River.
I do most of my Sturgeon fishing in the Columbia River Gorge. It is Pretty cool to catch a 500-pound fish 45 minutes away from Downton Portland, Oregon
And the scenery in the Columbia River Gorge is totally beautiful. A site I never get tired of seeing.
Although You cannot keep these giant Sturgeon it is a thrill that you will never forget. Seeing a 10-foot sturgeon leap out of the water while you are battling it Will get your heart pumping.
Although if you prefer to keep a sturgeon, we only get a few days here and there.
Be sure to check with https://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/Oregon fish and wildlife to see when and where the sturgeon may be kept. A surgeon has no bones They are all muscle and cartilage. In my opinion, they may just be one of the best tasting fish the Columbia River has to offer.
Columbia River Walleye.
May is also a great time to fish the Columbia River for walleye. These walleye become very active in the spring. May is a great time to do a combo walleye sturgeon tirp.
