Crabbing is a fun and challenging sport for people of all ages and abilities. You’ll have a great time on the water, and it’s even better if you can take home a bucket of fresh Dungeness crabs for dinner.

Crabbing is a popular pastime on the Oregon coast, and the state is known for its Dungeness crab. You’ll need to bring your Oregon shellfish license and a sense of adventure to join the fun. Since Seafood Watch lists Oregon’s Dungeness crab fishery with a sustainable seafood rating of ‘best choice’, there is no need to feel guilty about catching the daily limit of 12 crabs per fisherman. Typically, ¼ of a crab’s weight is meat, which means that clients can take home up to 6 pounds of cleaned and cooked crab to enjoy.
What are the Oregon crabbing dates?
Oregon coast Crabbing is open in estuaries (i.e. bays), beaches, tide pools, piers, and jetties year-round, but our trips will be for November and early December around the Astoria, Oregon, area.
How many crabs can I keep in Oregon?
Current Oregon regulations allow for a limit of 12 male crabs per person, at a minimum size of 5 ¾ inches. More often than not, we do get the full legal limit for everyone on the boat.
What about crab cooking?
You can take them home and do it yourself, or you can use the ocean-side facility for a nominal fee per crab. Want them packed on ice, or maybe for airshipment? No problem, we’ve got you covered.
How much does it cost for a guided crabbing trip on the Oregon coast?
We need four people to go out in the boat, and the cost is $135 per person. The total cost is $540 for the day. If you’re alone, that’s the same price as if you’re with friends. So make it a party! If you don’t have enough people to go, you can ask me to put you on a list. I’ll call you when we don’t have a full boat.

In addition to the famous Buoy 10 salmon fishing and crabbing, the area of Astoria, Oregon, is a wonderful town for the whole family to visit. One of my favorite sites includes the Astoria Column. Also, Lewis & Clark’s Fort Clatsop, the Columbia River Maritime Museum, and the Astoria-Megler Bridge are great stops. Don’t forget the Goonies House and the terrific restaurants and bars along the river.
