I’m excited for fishing in Portland, Oregon, when the weather is nice and the Columbia River is warm.
Summer fishing in Portland is fun and full of action! We have salmon fishing, steelhead fishing, walleye fishing, and one of my personal favorites is monster Sturgeon fishing.
Also, salmon fishing is continuing into early summer. Salmon fishing will be done on the Willamette River in Downtown Portland and also on the Columbia River from around the Portland airport up to Bonneville Dam in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, as regulations allow.
Chinook salmon can range between 15 and 30 pounds. Salmon must be fin clipped to harvest. Marvin’s Guide Service will fish on the Willamette River through June for salmon.
Walleye fishing is done on the Columbia River in the Portland area below Bonneville Dam., We do lots of walleye fishing in the Rufus, Oregon area as well because it offers some of the best walleye fishing in the Northwest with just a little more driving. Rufus is just past The Dalles, a quick trip out I-84.
The best fishing locations for walleye vary depending on the time of year and water conditions.
Columbia River Walleye
If you’re a thrill seeker, monster sturgeon may be the thing for you. Sturgeon often range between 6 and 12 feet long this time of year, however, all sturgeon fishing is catch and release.
We do our fishing for giant sturgeon on the Columbia River. Fishing locations will vary depending on the water flow from the dams. Marvin’s Guide Service will give you as much notice as possible for the best opportunities. All sturgeon trips are usually done within an hour of the Portland area in the Columbia River Gorge.

When crabbing in the fall, Marvin has you covered with a 27-foot covered and heated boat. Limits of crab are 12 each, and in the fall, limits are easy to come across and crabs are in prime shape.
