will start fishing for salmon generally in March on the Columbia River. I like to start my salmon trips near PDX airport.
The Columbia River spring salmon season is usually a short one and ends early in April. But that’s okay. Portland fishing still offers a great opportunity to catch salmon on the Willamette River, right in the heart of downtown Portland, OR.
Salmon fishing on the Willamette River in the Portland area will usually go into late June and the early part of July.
Portland fishing also has great opportunities for salmon fishing in the fall, which generally opens up on August 1st on the Columbia River.
Most anglers in the early part of August will be on the lower Columbia around the Astoria, OR, area. world famous Buoy 10. We will generally start fishing in the Portland, Oregon, area in September for fall Chinook salmon.

Most sturgeon fishing is a catch-and-release fishery, so you’re going to want to check with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to stay legal.
Panfishing, like bass and perch, is a year-round activity on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers near Portland, Oregon. However, most panfish offer more action in the spring and summer, when the rivers are running warmer.
