Well people Oregon fish and wildlife set the Sturgeon season for the Willamette River today.
I don’t like it, but what can I do? We only get 4 days of Sturgeon fishing on the Willamette river.

Sturgeon retention season on the Lower Willamette River (including Multnomah Channel and the Gilbert River) will be open Feb. 17-18 and Feb. 24-25 2012

The shortened harvest season is in response to a continued decline in the abundance of legal-sized fish in both the Willamette and Columbia rivers. Last week, the directors of Oregon and Washington departments of fish and wildlife agreed on a reduction in the harvest rate for both rivers from 22.5 percent to 16 percent for 2012. That’s a 38 percent reduction in the number of fish that can be harvested from the Willamette, and a 2012 harvest guideline between 1,768 and 2,022 fish.

I do expect some great Sturgeon fishing, I also expect huge crowds of people out there. the daily bag limit is one fish with a fork length between 38 and 54 inches!

Crazy! Here it is almost Christmas and we’re talking about Spring Chinook salmon fishing in Oregon. That’s because Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is predicting a run of 83,400 Chinook Salmon on the Willamette River this Spring. That number is slightly higher than last year’s return of 80,254. With Chinook salmon numbers like that they should be high enough for a seven-day-a-week fishery and a two fish limit when the fishing season in opens in January.

We will have to wait until January to know for sure the exact day’s we can fish salmon.

I know I’m very excited for the Spring fishery on the Willamette because the spring of 2011 was very good and now, to say there will be more spring salmon on the Willamette in 2012, has gotten everybody excited.

Marvin’s Guide Service will be Spring salmon fishing on the lower Willamette River from the head of the Multnomah Channel on down to the mouth of the Willamette River.

Marvin’s Guide Service has a nice top and a heater where you will be warm and dry while you fish in the spring. Call Marvin today a get your Spring Chinook salmon fishing trip for 2012 in the books.

I was on Willamette River Sturgeon fishing today (10-30-11). Sturgeon fishing on the Willamette River is catch and release this time of year and since the Willamette River always has a lot of action, it is a great place to fish.

During this time of year on the Willamette River, I try and scout out some new areas to fish for sturgeon. This way, when the season opens up some time after the first of year, I’ll be ready and know were the Sturgeon are hiding!

So today the spot I fished sturgeon produced very well. We fished 4 hours and had 3 keeper size Sturgeon to the boat and we let go over 20 smaller fish also.

Not much current on the River so you will need to use your trolling motor to help keep your boat tight on the anchor.

I know one thing for sure when the Willamette River opens for sturgeon it is going to be awesome fishing. I guarantee you one more thing when Oregon Fish and Game do open the Willamette River for Sturgeon fishing it won’t likely stay open long.

Marvin’s Guide Service has a list going with people that would like to fish the Willamette when it opens, to get on the list and try to reserve a day call now. 503-314-5087

Fishing above the I 5 bridge has been a great place to fish on the open days. you can fish below the I 5 Bridge 7 days a week. make sure you check for updated fishing laws fish and wild life can close the river at any time..

Willamette River is closed to Sturgeon, you may catch and release. Sturgeon fishing on the Willamette River has been great. Herring has been the hot bait.

Sturgeon fishing in the Columbia River Gorge is starting to pick up with both keeper size fish, and even some
I will just talk about a few for now.The First spot I like to Salmon fish is were the Channel comes into the Willamette River. I troll in this area of the River. The water is around 15 to 20 feet deep, I like to bounce the bottom when I fish this area.

The next place on the Willamette river I like to fish for salmon is up the river a few miles to downtown Portland Oregon, the water is 60 feet deep or so in this area, so what I do here is put on a 10 or 12 oz sinker and then let my line out around 30 feet, I try different depth until I find were the fish are.

I always like to troll with hearing on the Willamette River, when I fish the Oregon city area is when I go to hardware fishing.

Get ready for a super great run of Chinook salmon this year,
