We fish from a covered and heated boat.
Sturgeon come up the Willamette River because it runs a bit warmer than the Columbia River.
We fish with Light tackle, making it a great battle with a monster fish. Why stay home and watch fishing shows on TV? when You could be catching winter Sturgeon with Marvin’s Guide Service?
call Marvin and ask about winter rates January and February fishing trips only!

Today i had 4 people on the Columbia river sturgeon fishing.3 Of these people drove all the way from Utah,The other man came from Estacada.

We met at the Columbia river boat ramp at 6:30 am. We headed down the columbia up into the Willamette river.

It was a nice morning and instantely We caught 20 inch Sturgeon. Even though it was small the people from Utah had a blast. It Was the biggest fish they have ever caught.

We hooked 3 or 4 more all about 35 inches. Then the wind started blowing up the willamette river and the bite went off.

So we searched all over the river looking for Sturgeon. As the day went on the wind on the river got worst.

So at about 2:30 we decided to call it a day.But the group was smiling and lauging saying it was the best time we had on the river And saying it was the best time on the river.

I want to thank these 4 for the great time on the river. You couldnt ask for a better group. I look foward to fishing with them again.

Sturgeon AS of Jan. 1, 2009, the new way of measuring sturgeon to keep will take effect statewide.
Under the new rules, sturgeon will be measured from the tip of the nose to the fork in the tail (rather than the tip of the tail).
The resulting allowed retention measurements are slightly shorter than the old method. As a result, the 2009 slot measurement for sturgeon caught in the Columbia River downstream of The Dalles Dam to the Wauna Power lines, including tributaries, will be 38 to 54 inches FORK LENGTH. Upstream of The Dalles Dam to the Oregon/Washington border, the fork length for sturgeon retention will be 43 to 54 inches beginning on Jan. 1. Below the Wauna power lines, the fork length will likely change to 41-54 inches after April 2009, although those rules have not yet been adopted (see emergency rule changes for exact dates as the season approaches for sturgeon fishing below the Wauna power lines). Remember, all of these figures are simple conversions of the old method of measuring sturgeon. It does not mean you can keep smaller fish, only that the method of measuring “keepers” has changed. So, from Jan. 1 on,
Good luck on the columbia river should be a gteat year.
Look for lot of action with the shad come in on the river.

I like to use a ugly stick rod. With a pen gti 320 with 100 pound tuff line.

I use a slider for my weight the to my hook witch is a size 10.
I use 130 pound leader. I like my leader to be about 4 foot long.

I like the long leader because when the Sturgeon gets to the boat I can just grab the line.
Fish were there is current water dose not have to be deep to catch Sturgeon.
Look for back eddy and any place you think ther might be food on the bottom.
Call Marvin’s Guide Service for your best day on the water.

Hi my name Is Marvin. Welcome to my site I am a full time fishing guide here in Northwest Oregon.

I have been a fishing fool all my life. I have been fishing all over Oregon. I started fishing for salmon, steelhead, On the John day river with my dad.

For the last 10 or 20 years I have spent much of my time Fishing for sturgeon, salmon and steel head. About 12-13 years ago I decided to start guiding full time.

Now days the excitement that used to come from catching the fish has changed to satisfaction coming from being able to bring new people into the sport and to be able to Consistently figure out the fish and help my customers catch them.

Fishing for me is still exciting from the thrill of the bite to the challenge of the hunt for the fish.

Fishing over 250 days a year I still love it everyday. But on my days off I love spending time on my boat with my family.

Marvin,

Today we had 4 clients on my boat.We were fishing on the Columbia river right below the 205 bridge.

Today I decided to anchor instead of trolling,Which was very smart but it was rainy and cold on the Columbia river.

We were under the top with the heater on.We were there less than 2 minutes when we got our first salmon on.

It was approximately a 13 lb keeper salmon. The rain continued and then an hour later we caught Another keeper salmon.

Then Finally the fishing pole hammered down to the water again with the 3rd salmon on.

You wont believe what happened next. This salmon swam straight upwards river towards the boat and jumped straight up the fish landed on the back platform of the boat,It flopped around and came off the hook.

For sure that will be a fish story I or the customers will never forget.fishing
