End of 2015 fishing season

Posted by on Dec 1, 2015

I’m  wrapping up the 2015 fishing season. It’s been a great season we started out in the springtime catching king salmon on the Columbia River and then we moved into the Willamette River around the St Johns area and had a very good April and May catching lots of spring king Salmon. We were very fortunate they had the Columbia River open in June for the summer kings. I  myself was taking my trips right around the I 205 bridge on the Columbia River  and had great success. Also in June we were throwing in an occasional catch and release monster sturgeon trip. from Salmon to sturgeon April, May and June was excellent fishing. In July I did something a little different, I headed down to Astoria oregon to do some fishing

Columbia River Salmon fishing 2015

Do you remember how good salmon fishing was last August and September?

Columbia River Salmon

Columbia River Salmon

If not, salmon fishing was off the hook. It was totally awesome. With Forecasters saying this year will be just as good if not better, it has me looking forward to a great season of chasing King and Coho Salmon.
Marvin”s Guide Service will start fishing for fall king salmon in mid-July in the Pacific Ocean out of Astoria, Oregon. Then as the salmon move into the Columbia River, which will open up August 1 for salmon fishing, we will start fishing from Buoy 10 at the mouth of the Columbia River all the way up to the Astoria Megler Bridge. We launch our boat from the Port of Hammond Oregon. I will continue to follow the salmon up the river and, by early part of September, I will be fishing right around the I-205 bridge on the Columbia River up to Bonneville dam.
So, if you’re looking to fill your freezer was some salmon give us a call and I will be happy to hook you up.

Portland Oregon Sturgeon fishing 2013

Posted by on Dec 1, 2013

With November marking the end of salmon season for Marvin’s Guide Service, we have switched gears and hitting up the Willamette River and hooking up on some excellent catch and release Sturgeon Fishing. Sturgeon fishing in the Portland area has been great so far with Sturgeon four to 11 feet long taking our bait. We have been fishing a few of our favorite Sturgeon spots and finding good fishing where ever we go. Catch and release Sturgeon fishing should stay like this throughout the winter and continue to get better as spring gets closer. The bites might get a bit softer, but the Sturgeon will still be here. Winter is a great time to catch big quality fish on lighter gear than we would use in the summer months. Sturgeon fishing in the winter is much better than going to the gym and we’re pretty sure it’s a better workout too.
