With November marking the end of salmon season for Marvin’s Guide Service, we have switched gears and hitting up the Willamette River and hooking up on some excellent catch and release Sturgeon Fishing. Sturgeon fishing in the Portland area has been great so far with Sturgeon four to 11 feet long taking our bait. We have been fishing a few of our favorite Sturgeon spots and finding good fishing where ever we go. Catch and release Sturgeon fishing should stay like this throughout the winter and continue to get better as spring gets closer. The bites might get a bit softer, but the Sturgeon will still be here. Winter is a great time to catch big quality fish on lighter gear than we would use in the summer months. Sturgeon fishing in the winter is much better than going to the gym and we’re pretty sure it’s a better workout too.
Here is a quick video of Andy Carson from Good Day Oregon fishing with me. See him catch a 17 pound King salmon on the Columbia River.
Marvin’s Guide Service will be offering crab fishing trips in November, December and January.
We will be crab fishing ether Tillamook Bay on the Oregon Coast or on the lower Columbia River off the Oregon and Washington Coasts, depending on weather conditions. If we go to Tillamook Bay, we would meet at the Garibaldi Marina in Garibaldi, Oregon. If we’re on the lower Columbia River, we meet at the Hammond Marina in Hammond, Oregon.
Well people Oregon fish and wildlife set the Sturgeon season for the Willamette River today.
I don’t like it, but what can I do? We only get 4 days of Sturgeon fishing on the Willamette river.
Sturgeon retention season on the Lower Willamette River (including Multnomah Channel and the Gilbert River) will be open Feb. 17-18 and Feb. 24-25 2012
Sturgeon fishing above Bonneville Dam will open January 1, 2012. Sturgeon retention is allowed 7 day’s a week until the quota of Sturgeon are caught.
If you are looking to put some fresh Sturgeon in your freezer you want to go in January or early February. I don’t expect Sturgeon fishing above Bonneville Dam to stay open very long. Sturgeon must be between 38 and 54 inches to be able to keep them. You are allowed to keep one Sturgeon a day, but you may continue to catch and release after you have tagged your Sturgeon.
Do you and a guest want to go Spring Salmon fishing in 2012? Do you want to go fishing for free?
If the answer is yes then like Marvin’s Guide Service on facebook now and help spread the word! If we have at least 1000 likes by the end of 2011 we will have a drawing for a spring salmon fishing trip for you and a guest. We will be fishing in the Portland Oregon area, and you’ll have to sport your own transportation and lodging if you need it.
Winter is just around the corner, and you might be asking yourself what am I going to do on some of these cold, rainy days?
Now that the Chinook Salmon season is shut down on the Columbia River below Tongue Point, and I have to say there was some great Salmon fishing down there, it is time to start doing some salmon fishing in the Portland, Oregon, area.
Here is a quick fishing report for the Columbia River from Marvin’s Guide Service.
Steelhead fishing has been good on the Columbia River in the Gorge, red on red number 5 blade has been a good bet for summer Steelhead. I have been fishing the top half of the shad rack in around 9 foot of water, water is very fast so please be extra careful when you drop or pull your anchor up.
