August 2011,
It is open – the crazy fishery on the mouth of the Columbia River Buoy 10 King Salmon fishing. You should be excited about this one, I know I am. With big numbers of Chinook salmon, one of the best returns since 2004 predicted this year and a great run of Sliver Salmon it will be a wild time with lots of hook ups.

I’m going to talk a little bit about how and where I like to fish when working Buoy 10 around Astoria, Oregon.. Note, this is a big river with lot’s of good places to fish for Salmon, so these places are not all inclusive.

Early in the season I like to Salmon fish at Buoy 10 on a incoming tide. I will start my troll at the buoy and start trolling up river with the tide I go around 2 miles then head back to buoy 10 and start fishing again.

One of my favorite spots have to be the sawdust pile, witch is located up river from the Hammond boat launch on the Oregon side a few miles, I like to fish out by the green buoy, again I troll with the tide.

I will rig up 2 fishing rods with a delta diver and then pull a fish flash, and a herring, then I will rig up 2 fishing rods with a lead as my dropper then use a fish flash and a spinner, size of lead depends on tide, anywhere from 12 to 20 oz is what I like.

Call Marvin’s Guide Service today and get hooked up on this great fishery 503-314-5087.

With Summer finally coming, there is plenty of fish to be caught on the Columbia River. Here are a few of my favorites:

June Shad – the Columbia River gets a ton of shad in June, following the end of the Spring Chinook salmon migration. This is a great fishery for kids because there is always a lot of consistent action. I also like to use shad for Sturgeon bait. Shad fishing with light tackle always ensures a good time.

Summer Dinos – If you are after a monster fish over 8 feet and 400 pounds or more, well, then, let go do some Sturgeon fishing. You will catch these Sturgeon on the Columbia River all the way into September, with fishing just 30 minuets from down town Portland Oregon.

Summer Steelhead – fishing on the Columbia river is great, we also fish Steelhead just 30 minuets from down town Portland Oregon.

August Salmon – Now you should be really excited. Astoria, Oregon, Buoy 10 salmon fishing at the mouth of the Columbia River just might be some of the best salmon fishing Oregon and Washington have to offer. King salmon can get up to 50 pounds. And believe me when I say there is good salmon action, I mean good. Astoria is about a 2 hour drive from Portland, Oregon.

Call Marvin’s Guide Service today and get your day’s booked.

Willamette Rive in Oregon Holds many different kinds of fish. Like Spring salmon, Winter Steelhead, Coho Salmon, Sturgeon, Bass, and Walleye. these fish are probably the most sought after fish in Oregon.

The Willamette rises in three separate forks in the mountains south and southeast of Eugene, at the southern end of the Willamette Valley. Formed by the confluence of its Middle and Coast forks near Springfield, the main stem meanders generally north for 187 miles to the Columbia. The river’s two most significant course deviations occur at Newberg, where it turns sharply east, and about 18 miles downriver from Newberg, where it turns north again. Near its mouth north of downtown Portland the river splits into two channels that flow around Sauvie Island. The main channel enters the Columbia about 101 miles from the larger stream’s mouth on the Pacific Ocean, and the smaller Multnomah Channel, a tributary, enters the Columbia about 14.5 mile further downstream near St. Helens in Columbia County.

Multnomah Channel also Provides some great Salmon, Sturgeon, and Walleye Fishing.
Be sure to check ODFW web site before fishing on the Willamette River or the Channel. As they open and close it all the time for fishing.

Communities along the main stem include Springfield and Eugene in Lane County; Harrisburg in Linn County; Corvallis in Benton County; Albany in Linn and Benton counties; Salem in Marion County; Newberg in Yamhill County; Oregon City, West Linn, Milwaukie, and Lake Oswego in Clackamas County, and Portland in Multnomah and Washington counties. Significant tributaries from source to mouth include the Middle and Coast forks and the McKenzie, Long Tom, Marys, Calapooia, Santiam, Luckiamute, Yamhill, Molalla, Tualatin, and Clackamas rivers.

Arising at 438 feet above sea level, the main stem loses 428 feet in elevation between source and mouth or about 2.3 feet per mile. The gradient is slightly steeper from the source to Albany than from Albany to Oregon City. At Willamette Falls, between West Linn and Oregon City, the river plunges about 40 feet. For the rest of its course, the river is extremely low-gradient and is influenced by Pacific Ocean tidal effects from the Columbia. The main stem of the Willamette varies in width from about 330 to 660 feet.

March 19-10 Good Day Oregon said they wanted to fish with me again!! I thought I was lucky to have them fish and do the show on my boat one time, now they wanted to do it again, SWEET!!!!

My boat is moored on the Columbia River, but we had decided to fish on the Willamette River.
I had to meet Good Day Oregon at 4 am. I headed down the Columbia River at 2:30 am. I got to the St Johns Boat ramp at 3:30 a.m.
Around 4 am the Good Day Oregon van showed up. We began setting up were the first live shots would be.
The First shots were to be filmed on my boat, tied to the dock.

Then around 7 am we headed out to the Willamette River and Start Sturgeon Fishing.
I got the rods in the water, and man the fish were there! Every time we went live we hooked a fish!
Andy caught fish, his son caught fish, Mike the photographers son caught fish! All on live tv!!
Well, I must say, it was a great day to have Good Day Oregon fishing on my boat!
I want to give Andy Carson a special thanks for doing the show on my boat. These 2 fishing trips with Good Day Oregon will certainly be a life long memory for me!

Should have some short video of the show up soon!
Thank you again Fox 12.
I will just talk about a few for now.The First spot I like to Salmon fish is were the Channel comes into the Willamette River. I troll in this area of the River. The water is around 15 to 20 feet deep, I like to bounce the bottom when I fish this area.

The next place on the Willamette river I like to fish for salmon is up the river a few miles to downtown Portland Oregon, the water is 60 feet deep or so in this area, so what I do here is put on a 10 or 12 oz sinker and then let my line out around 30 feet, I try different depth until I find were the fish are.

I always like to troll with hearing on the Willamette River, when I fish the Oregon city area is when I go to hardware fishing.

Get ready for a super great run of Chinook salmon this year,
