With May just around the corner and being in Portland,Oregon it is time to start thinking about Sturgeon fishing on the Columbia River.

May is also a great time to do Salmon fishing on the lower Willamette River. You could even do a half day of Salmon fishing on the Willamette then do the second half of the day Sturgeon fishing on the Columbia River.

Where do we fish? There are a number of places to fish. One place I like to fish is down by St Helens Oregon, in front of Pixie Park. This is a great place for winter Sturgeon. Just be careful were you Anchor because that is also the main channel of the river.

I also had some luck on the jetty at high tide. Use Caution when fishig the jetty, the Ocean has been very nasty and unforgiving, we already had a few boats flip over this October.

Buoy 10 which is on the mouth of the Columbia River opened August 1st for Salmon fishing.
Fish and wildlife are saying we are going to have a great Salmon season this August and September on the Columbia River.
Predictions are 600,000 + Chinook Salmon, and 385,000 + Coho Salmon.

Columbia River Steelhead fishing is starting to heat up in the Gorge. I have been fishing at that upper end of the Shad rack in about 12 feet of water. The Columbia River is very fast now, so use caution when you anchor here.
