Even when i saw the van come in to the parking lot I still could not believe channel 12 fox was going fishing with me.

Andy’s cameraman Mike and I talked for a few minutes about were we would fish and how things would work.

Now Andy and I are talking about fishing and stuff. Then be for I knew it Andy says are you ready we are going to be live in 2 minutes?

Next thing I know there I am with Andy and were live and he is telling the world he is with a professional fishing guide Marvin.

We did the first 6 or 7 live shots from the bank of the Columbia river because it was to dark to go out in the river.

Finley we get in the boat and now I am feeling good about the live shots.

Then it happened we are live and fishing then all the sudden we get a bite! I set the hook.
the Sturgeon was big I hand the pole to Andy he is trying to do the weather report and fight this 8 foot Sturgeon at the same time.

He gives me the pole back and I start to fight this sturgeon and we are still live on TV.
Andy is doing the weather and I see the Sturgeon is going to jump so I say watch Andy,
When this fish came out of the water, Andy could not believe it he was so happy.

Sorry to say the Sturgeon came off the hook.
We only got to fish in tell 9 am.

One thin I can say for sure that is a day fishing on the Columbia River I will never forget.

Some people say everybody has there time to shine in the spot light, Maybe just maybe that was my time.

I decided not too fish for shad today because shad fishing has been kinda slow and I had enough from the night before.

I headed down the Columbia river. I anchored my boat in what is called the flats.

It turned out that not fishing for shad was a good idea. I got all four lines in the water and I looked over at one of the rods and it was going crazy.

I set the hook and handed the pole off. Turns out this sturgeon was 49 inches, Which is a keeper. Before I could get the pole baited up again I heard line ripping off one of the other poles.

I set the hook and the fight was on.Turns out this Sturgeon was about 7 and a half foot.

It was not a bad morning for the first hour or 2. We fished till around 1 oclock and all we ended up with shakers. Although we lost a keeper right up too the boat.

Turned out to be a great day on the Columbia river. I hope to see this family on the Columbia river again..

We got enough shad for bait and headed down the river.
I started fishing in about 25 feet of water. We caught 3 or 4 small sturgeon and then we finally landed a keeper of 43 inches.

It was not real big but it was a nice and fat sturgeon.

Today overall was kinda of a slow day but i will be back on the river tomorrow and will report back on how we do.

We have been getting lots of shad. that is great for the sturgeon.

We are also taking booking for summer steelhead and fishing at buoy 10 Astoria.

I look forward to the shad fishing picking up next week I think if we can get some sunny days on the river that will help.

Now for the Sturgeon fishing it has been pretty good I have been fishing in the Troutdale area, I have been getting small fish and a few big fish and some keeper fish.

The water has been fast so be careful out there.

Don’t forget salmon is going to open June 22. I hope that what the say any way.

Dwane and Debie came all the way from the Tri-Cities. They have fished with me before in Tillamook bay and have had success.

I met the 3 of them at 6:30 am at the fishery on the Columbia River. We started the day out fishing for shad. Shad fishing was spotty but we managed to get 6 or 7 shad. All of them were pretty small which is perfect for Sturgeon bait.

The first spot I anchored we had no success.I moved 2 or 3 times and we started to get a few bites.

The first fish we had on it was probably a keeper but we lost it..

When I threw Dwanes pole back out it wasn’t 5 minutes and he got another bite.This time we landed it. It was a nice fat 49 inch Sturgeon.

A couple hours went by and Debbies pole SLAMMED to the water!! Dwane grabbed it and set the hook. I knew instantley this was a big fish.

Dwane handed Debbie the pole and the fight was on. Let me tell ya this lady is tuff!! She faught this fish for about 30 minutes before she gave the pole to Dwane. I think she wore the fish out for Dwane!! LOL.

An hour and 15 minutes went buy and we had finally landed this fish. It was around 8 foot 3-400 pounds.

It turned out to be a great day on the river.
