Bonneville Dam Pool Sturgeon Fishing Report 1-9-2012
by Marvin on Jan.09, 2012, under Columbia River, Sturgeon
Here is a quick Sturgeon fishing report for the Bonneville pool. fishing was fair to good this weekend; there were more Sturgeon caught closer to Hood River. I only heard of a few Sturgeon caught down by the Cascade Locks area. While I did put my boat in at Cascade locks, I would head up the Columbia River about 8 or 10 miles. Most Sturgeon were caught in deep water, about 80 feet or better. Water temperatures were about 40 degrees.
I suggest if you go fish the Bonneville Pool that you use as light of fishing rod as possible because the Sturgeon are biting very soft, and you don’t want to miss a bite. Most salmon rods will suit this light winter bite perfectly.
I don’t see the season lasting long, so if your thinking about going, quit thinking and go. You are allowed to keep Sturgeon 7 day’s a week for now. But I would check with fish and game before you head out, as they are talking about making it a 3 day fishery. ODFW and WDFW will decide on all sturgeon regulations for the year in just a couple weeks.
has some day’s open so call now and lets hook you up in covered and heated boat.
