In may and june over a milion shad come up the Columbia river. These shad are fun to catch on light tackle, I like to call them pour man steelhead.

Pound for pound they are one of the best biting fish the Columbia river can offer.

Shad fishing is a great time for kids because there is alot of action, Although i dont care to eat shad, I like to fill me freezer with them for Sturgeon bait and Crab bait.

To fish for the shad you fish in about 10 – 15 feet of fast moving water.I like to use a little tiny spinner for these shad. It is amazing we can put a 5lb shad on hold to use for Sturegon bait.

I use a 10 odd hook right through the middle of the shads head when fishing for Surgeon.

So if you are looking for excitement on the Columbia river may and june is the time to do so.

Today i had 4 people on the Columbia river sturgeon fishing.3 Of these people drove all the way from Utah,The other man came from Estacada.

We met at the Columbia river boat ramp at 6:30 am. We headed down the columbia up into the Willamette river.

It was a nice morning and instantely We caught 20 inch Sturgeon. Even though it was small the people from Utah had a blast. It Was the biggest fish they have ever caught.

We hooked 3 or 4 more all about 35 inches. Then the wind started blowing up the willamette river and the bite went off.

So we searched all over the river looking for Sturgeon. As the day went on the wind on the river got worst.

So at about 2:30 we decided to call it a day.But the group was smiling and lauging saying it was the best time we had on the river And saying it was the best time on the river.

I want to thank these 4 for the great time on the river. You couldnt ask for a better group. I look foward to fishing with them again.

Today we had 4 clients on my boat.We were fishing on the Columbia river right below the 205 bridge.

Today I decided to anchor instead of trolling,Which was very smart but it was rainy and cold on the Columbia river.

We were under the top with the heater on.We were there less than 2 minutes when we got our first salmon on.

It was approximately a 13 lb keeper salmon. The rain continued and then an hour later we caught Another keeper salmon.

Then Finally the fishing pole hammered down to the water again with the 3rd salmon on.

You wont believe what happened next. This salmon swam straight upwards river towards the boat and jumped straight up the fish landed on the back platform of the boat,It flopped around and came off the hook.

For sure that will be a fish story I or the customers will never forget.fishing
